Prices regulated by the Eure prefecture

Contrary to a common belief, a taxi driver does not set prices freely. In the Eure, as in every department, fares are fixed each year by the prefecture. The vehicle's meter is calibrated to these ceilings and inspected. In practice, that means one simple thing for you: the price of a trip cannot exceed the legal fare, whoever the driver is. How a fare is made up

A taxi fare is based on three elements that add up on the meter.

• The pick-up charge: a starting amount, billed once at the beginning of the trip, as soon as you get in.
• The per-kilometre rate: a price per kilometre travelled, which varies according to the time of day and the type of journey.
• The waiting rate: billed by the hour when the vehicle waits for you, for example during a short appointment.

On top of this there is a minimum fare: even for a very short trip, the price never falls below a threshold of €8.

Day, night and Sunday: what changes

The daytime per-kilometre rate applies on weekdays, during the day. At night, on Sundays and on public holidays, an increased rate applies, as set out in the regulations. This is normal and identical for every taxi in the department. If your trip takes place very early in the morning or late in the evening, the driver tells you the applicable rate before departure.
